Summary
Design engineer and frontend developer with 6+ years shipping accessible, high-performance web and mobile UI, with a design-systems focus: component libraries, tokens, and patterns in code across web and native. Maintainer and contributor on an open-source web-component library used in production by Médecins Sans Frontières, the Red Cross, and UN agencies. Build AI-native — Claude Code daily — and shipped a streaming Claude API feature end to end. Care about the details you can't unsee: typography, spacing, layout, motion, micro-interactions, transitions, and information density. Background spans a 30M-visit consumer marketplace, humanitarian tooling, and solo product launches.

Experience
Hot Pepper Studios — Frontend Developer / Process Lead
Remote · February 2026 – Present
- Lead frontend for Up to Speed, a React / React Native eLearning platform delivering CME-accredited medical training, owning UI architecture across web and mobile from one shared codebase.
- Designed and built the white-label system: a typed, schema-validated client config layer with clone scaffolding, replacing brand values scattered across the codebase with a single token-driven source so a new client deployment spins up from config instead of code edits.
- Established the engineering process for a fully distributed team from scratch — PR templates, code review standards, Jira/Confluence infrastructure — partnering with engineers and stakeholders across time zones.
- Audited the React and React Native codebases, flipping a disabled strict-typing lint rule to enforced within weeks and closing CI test/lint coverage gaps, removing a standing class of type errors from the build.
- Diagnosed and fixed a cross-platform progress-tracking bug that exposed a backend compliance gap in the CME credit-claim flow, correcting corrupted answer counters.
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team — Frontend Developer (Open Source)
Remote · September 2025 – Present
- Maintainer and #2 contributor by commit volume on the XLSForm Builder (Vue 3, Pinia, TypeScript), open-source field-data tooling for Médecins Sans Frontières, the Red Cross, and UN agencies.
- Contributor to HOT UI, a framework-agnostic web-component library (Lit, layered on Web Awesome) with design tokens exposed as CSS custom properties; published as an npm package and running in production across HOT's tools.
- Built the XLSForm upload path end to end: a Go microservice exposing a pre-signed-URL API (S3/MinIO) plus a direct-to-S3 browser upload flow, and a form-tree to XLSX export pipeline (SheetJS). Currently building a drag-and-drop form canvas on a refactored Pinia store.
The Dyrt — Frontend Developer
Remote / Portland, OR · April 2019 – June 2025
- Co-led development of an internal bookings admin portal for campground operators, delivering the core feature of a two-sided marketplace end-to-end on a consumer platform with 30M+ annual visits, built in Next.js and TypeScript.
- Translated Figma design files into pixel-accurate, production-ready React and React Native UI, working directly with designers over a multi-year collaboration.
- Drove design-system adoption across an 8-person frontend team, standardizing shared component patterns and removing duplicated UI logic across the Next.js web app and the React Native app.
- Built an in-app campground navigation feature in React Native (search, routing, map UX) for a registered user base in the millions.
- Increased conversion rate 1.5% by shipping targeted in-app marketing screens driven by Firebase Remote Config.
Projects
Rapidly prototyped, designed, and shipped to production — solo.
Terminal Portfolio — tbssnch.dev
Next.js, TypeScript, Anthropic SDK
- Personal site where a full-viewport terminal is the entire UI, layered as progressive enhancement over server-rendered no-JS pages kept byte-in-sync.
- Built the
askcommand: a public streaming answer from the Claude API, grounded in site content via a constructed system prompt, with graceful no-key degradation, per-instance rate limiting, and a client-side length guard. - Single-source design tokens; WCAG contrast enforced above AA by a test; a deliberate two-animation motion budget. Built with Claude Code.
VersusDB — versusdb.com
Next.js, React, Vercel
- Designed, built, and shipped solo: content model, comparison and category pages, static generation with incremental revalidation so new entries go live without a redeploy.
OpeningDrill — App Store
Swift, SwiftUI
- Native chess opening-repertoire trainer with a from-scratch, unit-tested chess core — move generation, FEN parsing, drill and scoring logic — shipped to the App Store.
Education
Epicodus — Full-Stack Web Development
