HOT XLSForm Builder
Volunteer frontend work with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, contributing to the XLSForm Builder and a framework-agnostic UI component library (Web Awesome) used in production by Médecins Sans Frontières, the Red Cross, and UN agencies.
I joined HOT after leaving The Dyrt in mid-2025 and earned maintainer status within a few months — I'm currently the #2 contributor by commit volume, working under tech lead Sam Woodcock. The XLSForm Builder itself is still in active development and not yet in production; the UI component library is already shipping in production across other HOT tools.
What I've built: an XLSForm upload feature (a Go microservice issuing S3/MinIO pre-signed URLs plus a direct-to-S3 upload flow on the frontend), tree utilities and an xlsx export pipeline (SheetJS) converting the internal form-tree model into XLSForm files, and I'm currently working on a drag-and-drop form canvas built on a Pinia store refactor. I was featured in a HOT blog post in December 2025 about the path from humanitarian fieldwork into tech.
The XLSForm Builder repo is linked below. The shared component library it mentions has its own entry — HOT UI.
